If you currently have a Free email account and want to switch to a more ethical and eco-friendly email service, you're in the right place. This tutorial explains how to migrate your Free email account to your Ecomail email account.
Migrating the content of your email account
To migrate the content of your Free email account, we will use the free tool provided by OVH: Ovh Mail Migrator.
Go to OMM (Ovh Mail Migrator) and click on "New migration".
On the left side, enter the following details:
Server type: imap
Server URL: imap.free.fr
Login: your full Free email address
Password: the password for your Free email account
On the right side, choose:
Server type: imap
Server URL: the name of your IMAP server (Find the name of my IMAP server)
Username: your full Ecomail email address
Password: the password for your Ecomail email account
Check the "Email" box to ensure the program transfers the content of your mailbox.
Once done, go to the bottom of the page. Enter a contact email address, for example, your Ecomail email inbox. Accept the terms and conditions, then click on "Start the migration".
OMM will verify your credentials and then start the migration.
Once it is completed, a migration completion report will be displayed.
Migrating contacts from your email inbox
For this tutorial, the Free email inbox is based on the Roundcube interface.
On the Free interface, click on the "contacts" tab (https://webmail.free.fr/?_task=addressbook&_source=0)
Click on the small arrow to the right of "Export" and then click on "Export all".
You will then get a "contacts.vcf" file.
Log in to the Ecomail interface https://mail.ecomail.earth
Then go to the "Messaging" section https://mail.ecomail.earth/inbox
On the left, click on "Contacts" then "Import" on the right side of the page
Choose the file exported earlier using the "Browse" button
For the "import group assignments" section, choose "all"
Finally, click on "Import".
Transfer Free emails to your new Ecomail inbox
Attention, it is not possible to create an email transfer for a Free mailbox using Roundcube. It is only possible to create a redirection via the Zimbra webmail offered by Free.
Since Free makes migration to Zimbra impossible, we cannot complete this tutorial at the moment.
